After months of speculations and considerations, it has been finally announced that “Knight-Rider” is going off air. “Knight-Rider” is ending its short journey as the series has been called cancelled by the NBC, after just one season. So, all those fans who have been praying for another season of the series, yours prayers go unanswered. And, we too feel bad for the people who have been working on the series.

“Knight Rider” is not something that is new. Actually, it has been around for the past many years in different forms like that of movies, video games, TV serial etc and has been famous too. I am sure that the creator of the show Glen A. Larson must have thought that the series would do wonders. But some how it has failed to attract audiences, as was expected. And its low ratings have been the main reason behind the cancellation of the series.

“Knight Rider” when started airing on NBC had a fan following of about 4.5 rating/7 share overnight at the end of September, and actually the ratings grew during the first four episodes of the series and the ratings went as high as a 4.9/8 by mid-October. However, only two episodes later all of a sudden the ratings came down and never again climbed up the ladder high enough to please the bosses up there. A huge loss of about 33% of viewers was not easily accepted by the channel. I am sure there has been some other reason also behind the sudden decrease in the people watching the show. NBC has actually renewed “Heroes”, whose ratings have also fallen but, of course, not like Knight Rider.

We always thought of the Knight Rider as a hero who fought day to day crime, but that was true in an era when the world was not struggling with the menace of terrorism. If we are not ready to see an old series which changes its concept according to the needs and issues of the modern times then I think shows like Knight Rider will always fail to make a mark!
